THE RACES
Meru County has been taking lead recording significant number of cases of teen pregnancies, intimate partner violence, and mistreatment of widows among others. According to the County government data, Meru’s SGBV indicators are higher than the national average. FGM prevalence in Meru County is at 16 percent compared to a national average of 15 percent. Teen pregnancy prevalence is at 24 percent while physical violence is at 36 percent. We intend to involve journalists and other stakeholders across the country as well as schools that are adversely affected by teenage pregnancies, and communities where various forms of SGBV are prevalent for maximum impact. This event will also serve as an opportunity to foster solidarity within the community in addressing SGBV and emphasize the importance of mental well-being in the society.
